Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to our comprehensive FAQs section. We’ve gathered answers to the most common questions about ordering our custom cakes and cake toppers. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know—from initial inquiries to final delivery to ensure your experience is smooth, enjoyable, and perfectly custom-made to your needs.

General Ordering Process

1. What is your lead time?
Our lead time varies depending on the complexity of your order and our current schedule. We recommend providing at least two weeks’ notice, but we can sometimes accommodate urgent requests within 24-48 hours.

2. What do you specialise in?
We specialise in customised cakes and sugar figurines, creating unique and personalised designs tailored to your event.

3. How do I start the ordering process?

  • For Cakes: Share the details of your desired cake, including size, flavour, design elements, and the event date. We’ll ask questions to refine your request and suggest design options if needed.
  • For Cake Toppers: Let us know the type of sugar topper you envision, your design preferences, and how it should complement your cake. We can refer you to a trusted specialist if you need a custom acrylic topper.

4. What happens after I submit my request?
After you submit your request, we’ll follow up with a series of discovery questions:

  • For Cakes: We’ll inquire about the event theme, number of guests, flavour preferences, and any dietary needs. We’ll also discuss the design in detail to ensure it aligns with your vision.
  • For Cake Toppers: We’ll explore the design specifics, such as character choice, colours, and any special requirements like allergen-free materials. We’ll also advise on the size and weight of the topper based on your cake’s structure.

5. What are your prices?
Our hourly rate is $75. For cakes, prices start at $215 for a basic 6” round x 4” tall cake, which can feed 12 to 24 people depending on slice size. The final cost varies based on the complexity of the design.

6. What are your deposit terms?
Full payment is required to confirm your order. You are welcome to pay in instalments leading up to the event, which needs to be paid in full 2 weeks before the date of your event.

7. How do I confirm my order?
After you receive the quote, review it carefully. To confirm the order, you are required to process the payment. Once the payment is received, your order is officially booked.

Production and Delivery

8. How long does creating a sugar figurine or cake topper take?
The time required depends on the level of detail involved. Sugar figurines can be created well in advance and stored until needed as requested. However, we prefer to craft them within the week of the event date to ensure they are in peak condition.

9. Can I store sugar figurines or cake toppers in the fridge?
No, it’s not recommended to refrigerate sugar figurines or toppers made from fondant or gum paste, as condensation can cause them to melt.

10. How long can I keep a sugar figurine before it starts to decay?
Once dried, sugar figurines can last for years. They are naturally preserved by the sugar content but should be kept in a cool, dry place to avoid exposure to heat or moisture.

11. Do you offer delivery?
We offer delivery for wedding cakes for a fee and can arrange courier services for sugar figurines. Alternatively, you can pick up your order from our studio in Hornsby Heights, NSW.

12. How do you ship cake figurines?
We ship cake figurines across Australia using a courier service. Figurines are cushioned in layers of tissue, wrapped in bubble wrap, and packed in a box with bean bag beans to minimise movement. The service is typically overnight, though in remote areas it may take up to three days.

Design and Materials

13. What do you use to create the figurines?
We use ready-made fondant conditioned with Tylose/CMC powder. Our fondant is gluten, dairy, and nut-free, and we can use Kosher or Halal options upon request.

14. Are the figurines edible?
While made from food-safe materials, some figurines may contain internal supports like wires, making them inedible.

15. How do I secure the figurines to my cake?
Our figurines are created with skewers embedded within, making it easy to anchor them securely into your cake.

16. What do you use to glue pieces of your figurines together?
We usually use water to attach parts of the figurines. Sugar glue is used for attaching pieces that are already dry and cannot be joined with water.

17. Can you create allergen-free figurines?
Yes, the fondant we use is gluten, dairy, and nut-free. Please specify if you need Kosher or Halal options.

18. Can you create custom acrylic cake toppers?
We specialise in sugar figurines, but we can refer you to a trusted partner for custom acrylic toppers.

19. Can you create Disney or Pixar characters?
We do not create exact replicas of licensed characters due to the intricate nature of these designs. However, we can create similar representations in our own style.

Final Steps and Care

20. How do I store the figurines before use?
Keep the figurines in the box they come in, stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct light until you’re ready to use them.

21. Will the figurines stay in place on my cake?
This depends on the type of cake you choose. Some cakes may not be dense enough to support heavier figurines. Please inform us about your cake type, and we’ll advise accordingly.

22. Can I request for figurines to reach me on a Monday?
The courier service we use operates Monday to Friday. We prefer not to ship on Fridays to avoid unpredictable storage conditions over the weekend. For an early week event, it is preferred for you to receive your figurine late in the week before.

23. How big will the figurines be?
Figurines are sized proportionately to complement the size of your cake. You are open to requesting a specific size figurine, which we can advise on its appropriateness.

24. How do you attach a cake topper?
A cake topper typically comes with a spike or skewer for easy anchoring into the cake.

25. Do wedding cakes need a topper?
A topper is not necessary for every wedding cake. It depends on the couple’s preference and how they wish to personalise their cake.

26. How tall should a cake topper be?
The height of a topper depends on the overall look you wish to achieve and the type of cake you will be mounting it on. We’ll guide you on the best proportions for your design. On average, our figurines can range from 3”-6” tall.
