Made with love – treats to make for your special someone this Valentine’s Day

February 10, 2019

Valentine’s Day is the one day a year where you can really express your love and affection to your other half without ever being too “cheesy”. What better way to show your partner just how much you love them by making them some Valentine’s-inspired treats that are simply made with love. They say the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach, and we can help make that true.

Check out our Valentine’s-inspired treats to make your special someone feel extra loved.

1. Heart-shaped cinnamon rolls

Cinnamon is a heartwarming spice. So combine that with heart-shaped rolls and you’ve got the perfect Valentine treat. They’re also super easy to make…

You’ll need:

– 1/4 cup melted butter
– 1 tube refrigerated French bread dough
– 1 tablespoon cinnamon
– 1/3 cup sugar
– 1/4 cup cream cheese frosting
– Red sprinkles

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Unroll your bread dough onto a clean piece of parchment paper.
Step 2: Spread melted butter onto the top of the dough, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar (and love!) then roll the edges of the dough inwards to the centre.
Step 3: Using a sharp knife, slice your dough into 1-inch pieces.
Step 4: Place them into an 8-inch nonstick cake pan. To create the heart shape, pinch the bottom of the dough.
Step 5: Pop into the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove, frost and sprinkle, then eat!

2. Heart ice cream sandwiches

This treat requires a little love, care and creativity. They are super easy to make and always taste amazing. It can actually take less than 5 minutes to make them (great for last minute Valentine’s ideas!)

You’ll need:

– Ice cream sandwiches
– A heart-shaped cookie cutter
– Valentines sprinkles
– Candy sticks

Step 1: Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to press down on the ice cream sandwiches to make the shape. Use a knife to remove any extra pieces of ice cream.
Step 2: Add the sprinkles around the heart-shaped cookie
Step 3: Insert the candy stick to create your heart on a stick, and you are done!

We said it was easy!

3. Red velvet crumb cake

If you’ve got some time on your hands, you could be super romantic and create a delicious red velvet cake (in the shape of a heart of course!) oozing with yummy flavours, then finish off with sugar figurines inspired by you and your partner. This would make the ultimate Valentine’s treat.

What you’ll need:

– 1 tsp salt
– 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
– 2 cups of sugar
– 2 eggs
– 1 tbsp cocoa powder
– 1 cup butter, softened
– 1 1/2 tbsp liquid red food colouring
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– 1/2 tsp baking soda
– 1 cup buttermilk
– 1 tbsp cider vinegar

If you’re wondering how to create that heart-shaped template, it’s not difficult. Once you’ve made your basic red velvet cake (with bright red food colouring), you trace the bottom of a cake pan on wax paper and cut out a 9″ circle. Next, you fold it in half and cut into a heart shape. Put the paper heart on the cake and if it doesn’t fit comfortably with the cake’s circumference then trim it down.

Finish by adding your couples-inspired cake topper and you’ve got the ultimate Valentine’s treat.
